East Ham Granada

Anybody on here remember the Beatles and the Stones at the Granada.I used to live behind the Granada Campbell Road, in the 1960's used to be chaos whenever a big band used to play there, girls screaming until the early hours.Had some top acts though.

The eighth date of The Beatles' 1963 Autumn Tour took place at the Granada Cinema in East Ham, London.
The Beatles' 1963 winter tour programme prior to the concert, George Martin gave The Beatles news from EMI that their forthcoming single, I Want To Hold Your Hand, was likely to have more than one million advance sales ahead of its release.
Also present at the venue was Alun Owen, the screenwriter who had been shadowing The Beatles for the past three days. Owen was observing their lifestyle and characters, having been suggested by producer Walter Shenson to write a script for the group's first, as-yet untitled, feature film.
The Beatles performed 10 songs at the Granada Cinema: I Saw Her Standing There, From Me To You, All My Loving, You Really Got A Hold On Me, Roll Over Beethoven, Boys, Till There Was You, She Loves You, Money (That's What I Want) and Twist And Shout.
The scenes outside the venue were so chaotic that, when The Beatles requested food, the delivery person had to be accompanied by a police escort to make it through the crowds of fans.
This was the second time The Beatles played at the Granada. The first had taken place on 9 March 1963, the first date of the group's second theatre tour of the UK.

Yep, saw both The Beatles and The Stones at the Granada - when I say "saw" The Beatles I use the word advisedly, as could hear bugger all over the screaming. Memory is fading fast, but I seem to recall the supporting acts for the Stones included the Ronettes and a couple of other decent acts. I'd have been around 16 at the time.

The Beatles limo was parked opposite our house they made a quick exit at the end of the gig saw them from the upstairs bedroom window. My dad told the girls to clear off as they were still screaming for them two hours after the show.

My old man went to see the Beatles at the Granada, he also said you couldn't hear anything above the screaming. Can't quite remember the story of how or why he went because he has never been into the Beatles. maybe it was just because he was a teenager and lived just round the corner.

i saw black sabbath there, humble pie there, and hawkwind there, i may have seen uriah heep there as well, not sure about that one though

That building is still in good condition. Art Deco style I think. Lovely old place.

Mike Hunt you're right I also saw Uriah Heep there with David Byron doing a twenty minute version of Salisbury great days.

Apparently the cafe they ate in opposite the venue sold the crockery and cutlery as collectors items!!
my mother in law saw them here.
There's a book detailing all the venues and links to London
they also played both Romford cinemas and bingo had step grand parents in romford

Can't remember the year but when we lived in Manor Park I took Mrs c to the granada to see Johnny Ray perform (she liked his music( and the Beatles were one of the supporting acts, think tickets were 2s 6d
